3.2.4. Project Timeline and Management

3.2.4.a Description of the Management Structure

The leading Portuguese forestry research center, Centro de Estudos Florestais (CEF/ISA), will coordinate a team involving Portuguese top researchers on forest growth modelling, ecophygiology, remote sensing and biotic interaction experts. The project will be coordinated by Luis Fontes who will be the project leader. Each Project Task will have assigned a coordinator as it is described in the PINEA+ Project timeline diagram included in the proposal. Each Task coordinator will work to ensure the successful accomplishment of the work proposed.

Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (INIAV) will participate in tasks 1, 2, 6 and 7. This collaboration will help
the project with expertize in genetic breeding and soil characterization and nutrition. The inclusion of UNAC in the project is strategic as gathers the most relevant stakeholders and forest managers in Pinus pinea forested area in Portugal. UNAC is an important link to practical knowledge able to obtain feedbak from field expertize and also to capture financial support for future project collaborations. The team work will also benefit from existing international research cooperation ties, namely through the involvement of consultants which are top researchers from the University of Oxford (Peter Savill), and the Spanish Forest Research Centre, Centro de Investigación Forestal (CIFOR/INIA). Such cooperation will definitely bring an extremely important scientific support in silviculture, plant physiology, processbased modelling and Pinus pinea modelling respectively.

The project leader will be in charge of the overall project management which includes all aspects of communication, collaboration and coordination to meet the technical and quality targets of the project. PINEA+ Project intends to have at least 2 general team meetings with all team researchers involved: a kick off meeting and another at the end of the project, where stakeholders will be invited. Additional meetings will be organized if necessary. The first meeting intends to discuss the planning and coordination of PINEA+ Project Tasks. The final meeting will present the final report, to evaluate results and discuss what was accomplished. Scientific papers in international and national journals will be carried out during the project as well as presentations of the project results.

The Host Institution for PINEA+ Project is Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) and projects carried on in ISA are assisted by
the ISA administrative central staff, that includes financial, human resources and public relations managers, and by a project
general support team.
